Things I Learned – Social Media Series
Your Instagram bio needs to be an important priority as part of setting up and optimizing your Instagram account. It is a short description selling, not describing your Instagram account. Think of it as a business card! It needs to be creative. It needs to attract people to keep reading and looking. You want them to follow you and complete your goal for your Instagram page, whether that is going to your website, signing up for something or purchasing a product. You want it to stand out from other competitor pages and accounts.
Ask yourself two questions. Why would you follow this (your) Instagram account? Why do you follow the accounts that you already do? Write these reasons down.
You have 150 characters to convince someone to follow your account. There are two main frameworks to do this: 1) Paragraph or 2) Bullet Points. According to Falcon.io, there are certain things to include in your bio. You should include your specific niche or service, skills and experiences. Use humor! It helps you and your brand stand out and makes you more relatable. If your account is more for you as an individual, include hobbies and interests. Remember, you can do these things in either paragraph or bullet points. Keep in mind though, bullet points are easier for people to read.
Don’t explain your purpose, but sell your benefits.
Use emojis, even if you are a business!
Use SEO-rich words that flow naturally. Ask yourself, “What are people searching for to find your business?”
Use hashtags of your keywords and tags to boost your SEO score.
Your Instagram bio needs to be very clear about who you are, what you do and how you can help your followers. Heather Colby has a great article and podcast about your Instagram bio and a great framework for it.
As a wrap up, remember that you want to stand out and make people want to keep looking and learn more about you and your business. Remember that you want to appear human! Give them a peek into your humor! Make sure you are clear about what you do and stay away from cliche real estate statements. If you take all of these tips into consideration, your Instagram bio can help you stand out from other real estate agents in your area.
