“I think I feel a change in the wind, says I.” One of my favorite lines from one of my favorite movies, Pirates of the Caribbean. In reality, that line pertains to the new power house of buyers in the real estate market, Millennials. We all know of Millennials or know someone that is one. To break it down, they are those born between 1980 and 1998. One of the best ways to spot a millenial home buyer is – right when the home is sold they have it posted all over social media. You’ll almost want to hire them to do marketing for you, they’re that good at it.
But jokes and fun aside, they are the real deal now. Millennials, over most generations, use the internet for their home searching needs. A staggering 85% of them found their new home on a mobile device in the past year. Property websites, social media postings, reviews, videos, pictures – the works – are what these buyers are looking for. They need these things to get a full idea of where they are going to plant their feet for the next 20+ years. As a millenial myself, I also want as much info, and material on the home as possible. That way I can get an idea of my future home and envision how i could see myself living there.
I want something that will benefit me greatly but not cost me an arm and a leg in another facet of my life. Yes, square footage is a big deal, you want a sprawling home. But commuting costs and how close their new home is to schools is a huge factor as well. Like I was saying before, they want to be there for a while – so they want things easily accessible to them. So, the more centrally located they are the better chance they are looking to buy.
The final thing to keep in mind is that millennials are very aesthetically driven…
If you’re seller is thinking of making some upgrades have them choose one of those and you’ll be sure to have a lot of inquiries!
