Great news for the Charleston area.....Google says it will double its investment in Berkeley County.
The Internet giant held a news conference in Moncks Corner Friday to announce it will invest another $600 million in its operations. There was no immediate word on the number of additional jobs that might be created. Google employs about 150 people at its two server farms in operation in Berkeley County now.
Gov. Nikki Haley and local elected officials and company officials are meeting with reporters. The company opened its $600 million data center five years ago. The second server farm recently became operational. "Google has been a part of South Carolina's business community for several years now and today's announcement reaffirms the company's commitment to our state. Investments like this not only create wealth but also help to sustain the surrounding communities," said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
