Tips for Moving

You did it, you found the home that you've always wanted, made an offer and it got accepted!  It's an exciting time, but there is still one large hurdle standing between you and your fun housewarming party... MOVING.

If you've done it before or this is you're first time, moving can be tricky to coordinate to make it go smoothly. Here are a few tips that I learned that can make your move easier.

1.  Ask Around - Ask family or friends about who they've used before and learn from them who the good movers are.  We have researched companies and read reviews, compared prices and made selections thinking we made the right choice, only to be disappointed when the time comes.  Recommendations from a trusted source could be second to none.

2.  Plan Ahead, Way Ahead - If its possible, make sure you do not wait until the last minute.  Even with the best movers, last minute changes can happen.  Verify with them that they will be there as scheduled the day before.  Get most of your stuff packed and ready a few days in advance, so that you can spend the night before going over your moving day game plan.

3. Work With Your Movers - You know best where everything goes, so it's helpful and time efficient to guide the movers during the unloading process.  Make sure that you give them direction and keep them motivated to stay on schedule.  Take care of them, offer them drinks if it's warm out, a little kindness can go a long way.  Don't get stressed out by the small things that can and probably will go wrong.  Hang in there and remember that you are so close to relaxing on a comfy couch in your awesome new place!

4. Get Your Stuff Where It Goes - Getting you're items to the right place will help you from leaving your belongings in boxes for the next few months.  A friend of mine recently told me that his family moved and spent the following days unpacking and setting up EVERYTHING!.  That is challenging, but very smart.  The sooner you get set up the sooner you can fully enjoy your new home.

5.  Stay Positive - There's always a way.  I have been there in the impossible situation of needing to get everything out and cleaned into the late hours of the night before.  When it seems like there is no way to make it happen, call a friend, go over to a neighbor and ask for help, rent a truck to take a few extra items that didn't fit.  There is always a solution and you will find it.

I hope that these suggestions help you avoid unnecessary stress when moving.  If you have any questions or would like any more help, feel free to connect with me at Alex@schultzhomesales.com, 224-358-3775 or follow me on Facebook at facebook.com/schultzhomesales
