5 Best Types of House Siding to Choose From

The primary purpose of siding is to protect your home from extreme weather, provide insulation during the cold days, and give your house that curb appeal that you’ve been looking for.

As you can probably guess, there are many different types of siding.

While some like vinyl are popular and cost-effective, others like wood tend to be a bit more exclusive and luxurious. In any case, it is important to understand the most commonly used types of siding.

We talked to our favorite siding company in Minneapolis and they gave us the following list.

  1. Vinyl Siding

Vinyl is by far one of the most popular and cost-effective sidings you can go for. The biggest advantage with vinyl is that you get to choose from a huge variety of colors, textures, and styles.

This allows you to easily customize your home the way you see fit. On average, installing vinyl siding will cost somewhere between $3 and $8 per square foot.

However, this is a low-maintenance material that can withstand the torments of harsh weather and last for decades.

  1. Metal Siding

Metal siding is basically the perfect option for people looking for durability. These would typically be homeowners in harsh weather areas. Contrary to what most people believe, metal siding is not that expensive.

In fact, you can get quality aluminum siding installed for between $3 and $6 per square foot. As for those of you who’d prefer steel, the cost ranges between $3 and $8.

You will also get a great variety of styles to choose from, including vertical strips and panels.

  1. Wood Siding

In case you are looking for something a bit more exclusive, then wood siding should be a great option.

Just like vinyl, wood is also available in a variety of styles as well. It can also be finished with different stains or paints for extra aesthetic value.

The biggest challenge with wood is the fact that it is highly susceptible to moisture damage. Besides, it is relatively expensive with installation costs ranging between $3 and $14 per square foot.

  1. Insulated Siding

Anyone who knows anything about houses, including Minnesota roofing contractors, will tell you that insulated siding is massively beneficial.

Yes, it is a type of vinyl siding but it comes with an extra insulating layer that will save you a lot of money in energy bills.

The siding is made from expanded polystyrene foam. It can increase energy efficiency at home by as much as 20%.

  1. Fiber Cement Siding

Fiber cement siding is designed to give your home the impression of natural wood.

The great thing is that it doesn’t come with the typical challenges associated with wood siding. For instance, it is relatively more durable and moisture resistant compared to natural wood.

Despite this, fiber cement is very expensive with installing fees starting from as high as $10 per square foot. But you still get value for money because this siding can last for up to 50 years if it’s installed properly.
